WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT

Welcome to Humming Puppy; a yoga experience evolved from traditional practices in a stunning space that resonates with a perfect hum. More than just the physical practice of yoga, your experience begins the moment you sign up and book your mat online. Enter the studio, leave the outside world behind and immerse yourself in good vibes.

WHAT KIND OF YOGA IS IT?

While we don’t prescribe to a specific style of yoga. we base our teachings on the principles of breath-pranayama, movement-asana and awareness-meditation. These principles are the foundation of our classes in which we welcome beginners through to the most experienced yogi. Our classes are ‘warm’ and conducted in a room typically heated to 27 degrees.

Our teachers are always mindfully present for their students with the intention to create a space where you will always feel comfortable.

Each of our teachers take inspiration from their lineage of yoga and personal practice when designing their classes, so this is a little bit more about how I uniquely deliver each style of class:

MELLOW HUM
Restorative and Yin style practice. Early morning classes are a little more fluid in movement.

UNIFIED HUM
Slow flow with options for all abilities. Breath focused.

DYNAMIC HUM
Steady paced strong Vinyasa flow.

THE HUM IN HUMMING PUPPY

When taking a class at Humming Puppy, one of the first things you will notice is that the room quite literally 'hums'... and this is by no means an accident! Our yoga space or ‘shala’, engineered by ARUP (one of the worlds leading acoustic engineers), is injected with a combination of frequencies to enhance and deepen your experience. More specifically we use a combination of 7.83hz and 40hz. Being submersed in these frequencies helps you to naturally produce matching frequencies through a process of entrainment. 7.83hz otherwise known as the Schumann Resonance is actually the frequency of the earth itself and helps to 'ground' you through your practice. 40hz is specifically associated with ‘Gamma’ brainwave activity, integral for achieving states of peak performance. Elite athletes, top-notch musicians and high achievers in all fields, typically produce far more gamma waves than average.

And whilst all of that sounds quite serious and complicated, on a much simpler level the hum just feels good!

Both our hum and our music was composed and designed by Mitch Allen from OneTwoStudios.  Mitch and his team designed a natural hum sound from a recording of our own singing bowls that they later de-tuned to resonate at 40hz.  He also composed a suite of long form soundscapes to accompany each of our three class styles that work harmoniously with our hum.

YOGA WITH PERSONAL SPACE

We’re pretty sure yoga is meant to be practiced by humans and not tiny fish… so we won’t cram you in like a tin of sardines. At Humming Puppy all our classes are limited to only 39 places with an even and luxurious amount of room between each mat, so you can focus on your practice and not on another student’s behind!

WHERE TO START?

You can start your Humming Puppy journey simply by signing up and registering on this site. After you’ve purchased your classes you’re ready to book a specific class and select your mat. That’s right, we know students have their favourite spot - be it up the front, down the back or cosy in the corner - so at Humming Puppy you’re able to reserve the specific mat you want so you can simply turn up knowing you’ll be exactly where you desire!

ARRIVE AS LIGHT AS POSSIBLE, LEAVE EVEN LIGHTER

We want you to travel light - emotionally and physically - so we provide all students with mats by Manduka - considered the best in the business!  They are closed cell, contain no latex and we meticulously clean and sanitise them for you before each and every class. We also set up your reserved mat with blocks and straps, so when we say travel light, we mean it.

We pride ourselves on attention to detail and we aim to provide everything needed to make Humming Puppy the perfect yoga experience each and every time you join us. We hope to see you here soon!
